So my neighbor at work made me listen to the Rusty Humphries Show on the radio the other day, normally not my cup of tea, but Rusty had his 4 year-old daughter as a guest and she had many adorable and funny comments.  Another guest was an african-American minister who had some disturbing things to say about Kwanzaa!  Turns out this psuedo-holiday was actually created by an early gang-banger, and is one of the greatest hoaxes of our time.  And while I’m at it, let’s pick on Santa Claus too.

One of the things I enjoy about Christmas is that it’s the time-travel holiday.  We tend to be very consistent at how we enjoy this one time of year, personally and culturally, and these traditions tend to fire off our memory cells about our past Christmases.  And they are memories not only for we as individuals, but also to stories we’ve collected about generations before us, all celebrating the holiday in the same way.  So for me, it’s about celebrating Christmas 2005 as well as Christmas 2004, 1983, 1974, 1968, 1948 and 1843.

So in honor of Christmas 1948, please download and enjoy this 29-minute old-time radio show from that year, "The Story of Silent Night," which is actually about Christmas Eve 1818.  I found the program very informative and enjoyable.
